In search of agates

Walking a rocky beach is nothing like walking a soft sandy beach. The thousands of shapes and sizes and colors of the north shore rocks are hypnotic. We set aside several hours of each trip to do nothing but comb the beach for treasures. Agates, jasper, quartz, interesting shapes, beach glass, and bones. Agates are fun to find but rocks with natural holes are always my treasure. Every adult should find a few hours in their life to do nothing but sit on the rocky shore and absorb. Sounds of the waves and wind and feet stumbling across uneven surfaces and the splash of rocks being hurled into the cold water. The smell of the fresh water and the wet rocks being sifted through. The feel of the smooth surfaces and the cold rounded edges of rocks that have spent years tumbling in the surf. Its a beauty more easily understood in person than in a picture.
