Sun Setting on the East shore of Elbow Lake

Day one comes to an end. An old moss covered moose antler greeted us to the rocky hill on the Northwest corner of the lake. We last saw other humans shortly after we made camp. A lone fisherman from the 'range' stopped and chatted then puttered away in his motorized canoe. Our rock outcrop is a perfect campsite. Its resident cranky red squirrel hates the dog, the dog would like to play with the rodent or maybe catch one of the many little toads making our rock their home. A late afternoon outing on the rough lake resulted in a broken fishing pole and unneeded frustration about the finer points of fishing from a canoe. We caught nothing but enjoyed a beautiful campfire, warm dinner and many hands of Uno. A couple of hours after this sunset photo was taken the full moon of late August rose in exactly the same spot. A silver band of moonlight stretched across the lake lighting our night. As a loon called down lake, a beaver swam by our rock in the silver moonlight then drifted away. Sitting there on that rock with my son and dog and moon and beaver will forever be one of the most perfect moments in my life.
