Confluence of the Rivers

This morning we walked the Pike Island trails. Recent flooding has left logs and debris everywhere. The sandbar at the end of the island has changed yet again, it stretches out in the the water even farther now. The silt deposited there still has so much moisture that when you jump up and down on it, the moisture comes to the top and makes neat little mud puddles. Pretty cool, especially for the kid. The dog just watched the action. I think he was trying to figure out if the boy was in any kind of danger. One of the most amazing parts of the day was the sky. As blue of a sky I have ever seen without any hint of a cloud. I love autumn air. The cool breeze carries the leaves to their resting spot on the ground or in this case the river. The sun casts amazing shadows between the tree trunks and migrating birds return in shifts. The Cedar Waxwings and Dark Eyed Juncos appeared this week, a sure sign of our dwindling daylight and warm air. Maybe its just my spirits, but I cannot remember a fall as lovely as this one.
